Radio: Fuzzy Logik Guest Show

Fuzzy Logik joined me in the Break London studios recently for a trip into The Funky Vault and his FIRST EVER guest appearance on radio!

Being a foundation producer on the UK Funky circuit, Makeda QoS questions why Fuzzy Logik has remained highly elusive until now, as well as finding out what is coming up in the future on his recently launched record label: World Class Music.

In addition Fuzzy Logik blesses his time within The Funky Vault with a DJ mix, showing he has aquired skills in another area of the music scene.

Recently I was given the pleasure of conducting the first interview with Fuzzy Logik, one of UK Funky’s hottest producers and now I’m getting an additional pleasure of his company this Sunday when he joins me in the Break London studios for this week’s trip into The Funky Vault!

Fuzzy Logik will be teaming up with myself QoS to present the show as well as conducting a LIVE mix!! Yes that’s correct, he’s going to touch the decks!!

In addition we're going to be discussing various topics such as what it's been like working with the artists he has collaborated with, who are the divas and who has extremely large feet! Also going to be exploring what it was like to do remixes for Skepta, Pixie Lott, Mr Hudson, La Roux etc but most importantly why does Fuzzy Logik never sleep!?

Radio: Golden Oldies Special

Approximately a fortnight ago I dipped into the archives for a 'Golden Oldies' special edition of The Funky Vault. While listening back to the show, it amazed me how many great quality tracks have been swept under the carpet as the music has continued to evolve. The Funky Vault: UK Music Takeover

Last week I decided to be a rebel once again and break the boundaries found within 'The Funky Vault'. With UK Music consistently making impact within the industry, I decided that I wanted to pay homage to some of the artists who have been significant in the mainstream and also the underground over time. Birthday Shenanigans

Being a workaholic I thought I'd gift myself the one thing nobody thought I would..... A whole week off from the long bonding moments I tend to spend with the keyboard and screen nearly every woken moment of my life (well when not outdoors or completing household chores)..... I didn't think I'd be able to abstain for the entire week, however I managed it!! BUT although the week off was nice and relaxing.....

NOW I HAVE MOUNTAINS TO CATCH UP WITH!!!!!

So anyway if you're interested in how the birthday week went. It was FAB!!! I got to rest, eat, party and SHOP!!! Yep.... I definitely shopped... and partied..... #GoodTimes

Before I get into the shenanigans of the week, last Sunday I had 2 guests on my show to voice their opinions on the House/Funky genre and I have to say, it was an interesting experience. I may have to do it again at some point in future....

The Funky Vault 27 March 2011 by MakedaQoS

Following the show, myself and @IAmTheGen went to my mother's for our Sunday dinner (as you do) and for some bizarre reason, it seemed a good idea to start drinking..... Long story short I entered my birthday feeling a little bit more than wavy.....

Waking up hungover isn't something I recommend on your birthday.... After attempting an afternoon drink to toast the day, I totally missed @SnakeyManUK's Making Moves launch party #SadTimes I just hope he forgives me! Check out his interview tho....

With no social events planned til later in the week, I decided to utilise my free time by seeing what could be found in the shops.... Not much.... Maxi dresses are available in ten fold at the moment if anyone is looking. I did find a few gems though..... I would share, but I'd rather model ;o)

Finally Thursday hit which meant #TILTWO 

It was time to party! #HOUSE

BUT!!! A last minute venue change and lack of wine in the club (yep you read correctly, the club never had any wine), not to mention the messages coming through about people being stuck outside.... What a nightmare! Nevertheless, I got to hold a vibe and hear couple tunes while knocking back a few drinks and cracking a few jokes..... I'm not really that hard a person to please so I wasn't bothered about the factors that had gone wrong.... Although, my highlight of the night was meant to be MC Gemini so I wasn't to impressed that the microphone wasn't working. I tried to persuade him to just shout instead but he weren't having none of it.... #SadTimes Still a big shout goes out to those who came down (both inside and out), and those who came and couldn't find me.... SMH

Oh and if these were your shoes, I shouldn't have posted them on the net.... 

I'm sorry!

Anyway..... Next came Friday.....

All I'm gonna say is SICK and VIBES!!!

I got desperately torn between 2 rooms when I realised that T. Williams & Marcus Nasty were on at the same time.... I ended up giving them the length of time it took me to finish my drink each and going back and forth.... But if there's anything that was confirmed to me is that I love house and I love funky..... In fact, I'm open to every underground 'urban' genre, as long as it's GOOD!!!

Bass, Kicks, Snares, I don't care, just make sure it's DIRRRTY!!!

Today is an extra special show on The Funky Vault because it’s the birthday show, so it has to be jammed packed right? New Music: Face Off EP (Preview)

Being the House & Funky diva that I am, it's undeniable that I got highly excited when I saw this EP from FunkyStepz hit my inbox....

A Day In The Life of A.L.

They say Sunday is the day of rest, but after a long night in the studio putting pen to paper and laying down some vocals on a track, the day that A.L. has ahead of her has gone from long to strenuous. This young lady however is more than excited about the activities ahead. Running on nothing more than adrenalin and enthusiasm, this budding artist is showing her passion with actions instead of words.

Setting out shortly after 1pm, A.L. is already running late…. Expected to be at a rehearsal in Central London for 1.30pm to go through a forthcoming performance with a live band, A.L. arrives shortly before 2pm with a voice that barely reaches the required decibels to carry speech. Keeping to the stereotypical artist image, A.L. presents to the musicians a backing track with the most complicated jazz sequence they’ve ever come across. Whilst they get to grips with the chords, A.L. takes advantage of the situation by warming up her vocal chords with a couple cups of peppermint tea, The band have figured out the sequence but A.L. notices a major flaw straight away…. It’s in the wrong key!

The band humbly admits to changing it slightly to make it easier to play and go back to perfecting the sequence with accuracy, complimenting A.L. on her ability to hear the change straight away. The song is rehearsed with a further 2 songs for the band to learn and rehearse. Then they all discuss the sequence and delivery of the performance. By the time all 3 songs have been recorded for the band’s further rehearsals, the clock is ticking towards 3.30pm and A.L. is due to be a guest for a radio broadcast starting at 4pm in Stratford, East London.

Arriving just in time, A.L. enters the Break London radio studios with another cup of tea and a breakfast of Walker’s Sensations. Amazingly the lack of sleep and poor diet is still having no effect; A.L. is still firing in all cylinders while she discusses her career as an artist and the music scene......

“I started singing when I was 5 and started writing when I was older, since then I’ve just continued as a singer/songwriter. Producer wise I’ve worked with Rowntree, Lewi White, Swindle, Footsteps, Funkystepz, Hardhouse Banton, Jammer…. That’s just a handful, there’s too many! But because I first became on a Funky track, people don’t realise that I’ve worked in other genres. I’m currently working with Merlin, Flava D and on the Funky front I’m still working with Footsteps and I’ve got some upcoming stuff with Mystery, but I’ve got a whole load of other stuff going on……”

“With music it’s 80% who you know and 20% talent. It’s the hard truth. You have to get out and you have to network and the more connects that you get, the more say easier to get out there. So even if you’re an artist that make the best tracks and writes the best lyrics, it doesn’t mean that everybody is gonna know who you are and that may be due to the fact that you’ve not got a lot of contacts and connects.”

“It’s harder for a female singer to get out there as there are so many. You need to be doing something totally different or you need to be getting to more people to get noticed more than the others. In a way it’s harder but there are more girls getting through now and I just think if everybody keeps pushing, we will get recognised even more.”

“You can look forward to more videos from me, more solo stuff will be emerging. You’ve seen the collaborations I’ve done on the mix. I’m still going to be doing collaborations but going forward there will be more A.L. orientated stuff. I’m gonna be doing another mixtape this year also which will be more my stuff. So just look out for that.”

The show comes to an end, it’s 6pm and before A.L. can put her feet up and put her day to rest, there is 1 more task to complete; a performance at Sunday Show taking place at Sound, Leicester Square. Knowing the odds are against her to make the 6.30pm soundcheck, A.L. sets out hoping to achieve the inevitable. Greeted by 2 fat rats at the start of her journey and later the frustrating task of finding a parking space in Central London, A.L. misses the soundcheck but makes it in ample time to get ready for her 8.20pm performance.

When this young lady takes to the stage, the Sunday Show audience are none the wiser of the tiring activities the singer before them has completed on insufficient sleep. Giving a performance of 3 songs, it’s unbelievable that less than 12 hours prior, the voice belting throughout the nightclub was struggling to deliver smooth speech. Nevertheless the entertainment value of A.L.’s performance is very high, humbly awarded with loud applause and compliments from the host. A.L. deserves it.

Thoroughly keeping balance in her life, A.L. sets new sights on enjoying some time to socialise with friends who have come to support her before setting off home satisfied with the day’s accomplishments. Now time is ticking towards midnight A.L. declares that it’s definitely time to eat and get some hard earned sleep, which she thoroughly needs before returning back to the life of her regular 9-5......

I'm finished with the Beeb!!

It's once again been a while since my last blog post, but many things have happened.... Instead of writing a dissertation I'll cover each subject separately.

So what has happened?

The BBC Step Up scheme came to an end, and I got to find out what it's like when you have to explore journalism on a topic of which I struggled to find personal interest: Bicycle Polo.

On the plus side, the completed news story (which had to be linked to London and the olympics) was airred during drive-time on BBC London Radio.... I couldn't find the radio story, but this is the TV one also airred during prime-time:



Overall the 12 week experience was very rewarding, not only did I get to enjoy some great experiences, but I also got to meet some really great people. I would definitely recommend the BBC Step Up scheme to anybody interested in journalism.

I also got named as a star person on the scheme at the ending ceremony which was very humbling, especially as I was rather concerned that my personal fight to show interest may have had adverse effect on the levels of which I applied myself to the task in hand. But I guess my determination to do the best of my capabilty paid off...... Made me realise that endurance is definitely required in ALL aspects of life where we wish to achieve for the better.

Stresssssssss!!

Yes!! Stress is my word for the week!!!

As exciting as the plan is, I am highly stressed and am praying for serenity to accompany me through.....

The next issue of the magazine is due this Friday and this week is always the hardest week of the month for me. But at least I have Wednesday's radio show to look forward to....

I have 2 extra special guests joining myself and co-host in the studio and it's set to be AMAZING!!!

Encountering 2010.....

Hmmm.... I haven't entered any posts since the start of the year so as we proceed into our third week in, what have I been getting up to that's made me so busy to be slacking on my love of blogging?

Eastenders E20

Well anybody that knows me or follows my Twitter is well informed of my love for Eastenders. At the end of last year, a spin-off was launched named "E20". With 4 main characters, 3 who have already infiltrated into the main programme, it's going to be interesting to see how the continuation with the parallel storylines are kept up. Celebrity Big Brother

I can't say I've been keeping up with it this year, but I have been watching it so to speak. With Sisqo and Vinnie Jones in the house, I thought I'd be addicted but instead it's still just one of those programmes on television, where you have to ask yourself why exactly it is that you're watching it... I'm glad they're making donations to Haiti though. I might start watching it more now that 'Sov' has been evicted.... Apparently her 'people' love her... What people? She obviously wasn't aware of the chants the crowd were making until she made her exit. I have to wonder how her mind works to be honest, but I won't spend too much time on that thought......

Alright let's move away from the major distraction of TV, what have I really been doing other than beating my way though all this snow the government has been struggling to deal with?

Magazine

Work behind the scenes of the upcoming issue on Da-Mju:zik magazine is well underway. Kicking off the year with an edition dedicated to one of the leading collectives in the 'urban' music scene, it has been an enjoyable experience. There are various improvements also being made with the presentation of the magazine including a whole new range of visuals, assisting to the levels of enthusiasm within the camp this month. I'll be definitely letting you know more about that as things proceed.

Radio

As you will all know if you've followed my blog for a while or done your research, I was a guest presenter on a few shows with Scratcha on his Grimey Breakfast Show on Rinse FM which I have enjoyed doing on each occasion. Leading to me getting more involved in radio production including a course with Point Blank and an upcoming radio show. More I'll be letting you know about as they proceed.
