MTV Wrap question..... Is Funky Dead?
Earlier on in the week the editor of MTV Wrap Up asked me whether I thought the sub-genre was dead..... Initially I thought "Oh not this question again....." but then when I thought about it, I was quite chuffed being asked to release my thoughts into a commentary piece.... Is my opinion really that valuable? I personally didn't think it was......
Anyway...... This is was the response -----> Is UK Funky Dead?

DJ/Producer Naughty on MTV Wrap Up
Naughty is a young producer/DJ from north London who has musical talents and skill that exceed his years. Getting into music very young as a musician - learning to play various instruments - Naughty was first inspired to take the DJ path at the tender age of 11 after witnessing DJ EZ playing a set. “I liked his energy, I wanted to get into DJing,” he told me. “My parents weren’t really too keen at first, but I took it really seriously.”Naughty has since gained himself a firm understanding of music and its components over the years, from being a DJ, to production and engineering. Finding work within a record shop at 16, Naughty had regular contact with many members of the club circuit, including DJs and promoters, all keeping him in the know of the hottest venues and access to all the latest music. Within this occupation, Naughty became affiliated with MC Bushkin (Heartless Crew).

Hold Yuh - UK Funky Remix
A man who is doing serious things for the Dancehall scene at present.... It's Gyptian with the track that took over the airwaves Hold Yuh. But it's another official remix coming out of the FunkyStepz camp and I'm totally loving it!!!!
Funky and Bashment have been mixed a few times already, but not always done with success. Already heard this remix being played on the airwaves and I surely wouldn't complain if I heard it a bit more.

FunkyStepz on MTV Wrap Up
This young production trio have spent many years mastering their individual crafts and are now finally reaching a point where they‘re able to reflect in hindsight, and see what recognition they have accomplished and plan for future steps to further their achievements. Funkystepz, also known as Maxsin (23), Stimpy (21) and Renay (19), came to know of each other through their own musical capacities and eventually joined together to become a reckoning force of producers/DJs within the UK funky circuit. Together, the trio have found a niche for themselves that has taken them on a journey that they're happy to continue...
